With absolutely no knowledge of an anything prior to Fallout 3, I developed this weird theory the other day that Vault Tec initiated the war in order to study their Vault inhabitants.
My understanding is that they lobbied top US officials who were the ancestors of the current Enclave. What if they started the war with the promise that the Enclave could rebuild the United States in its own image, and Vault Tec is holed up in a Vault somewhere monitoring their various experiments? No Chinese threat; no opposition from other politicians. Enclave rules the United States and Vault Tec does its studies.Downvote this if its completely outrageous but please explain the lore that makes the theory wrong. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for them to have done that. Yes, it's true and we all hopefully know by now that Vault Tec was an absurdly corrupt and psychopathic company who conspired with the corrupt and fascist US government of the Fallout universe to create the Vault experiments.
However, even though Vault Tec was cruel and basically evil in a lot of aspects, you can't think of them as stupidly power hungry. Think about it, they're a pre-war company building advanced fallout shelters for the government. Vault Tec was getting paid by the US to build these things, and they then went on to charge people for a spot in these Vaults. Vault Tec was likely making an absurd amount of money, giving them a lot of power in the pre-war world, so why risk it by starting the Great War?
There's no guarantee Vault Tec employees would even survive the war, no guarantee the Enclave could seize power (which they never have), and in no way would they profit from it. Vault Tec was corrupt, but my bet is they only cared about the money they gained from the Vaults and fear mongering.
They didn't care if they were used. The Vaults were never meant to save anyone. Also, to other folks in this thread, I'd like to point out the symbols on those nukes aren't identical to the Vault Tec logo. They're similar in a lot of ways, but not exact at all. Likely they aren't Vault Tec bombs.
I feel like focusing on who threw the first stone is a pointless endeavor th at distracts from the inevitability of the great war. Even if vault tech started it, it doesn't say that much about them, as the US and China would've (and still may have) both done the same thing. One reason for Vault Tech not being the one to start things off is actually due to their psychopathic experiments: entire vaults were empty when the bombs fell. Why would VT not wait to start the war until they had a full stock of test subjects? It's counter to their interests to build these elaborate testing facilities and then simply not use them. No it makes absolutely no sense.
There had already been nuclear attacks, such as a terrorist incident in Tel-Aviv and the use of small scale tactical weapons such as the Fatman so all out nuclear war was not a distant possibility. American forces were also deep into the interior of China (In particular along the Yangtze River from Shanghai and the Gobi desert) so it's not unlikely that China wanted to save their skin. Europe had begun to dissolve at this point as well so the immense amount of flash-point tension could very easily cause a nuclear war. Vault-Tec get money from government contracts so there's no point in destroying the world because now they can't use any of that money. Also the Vault experiments were monitored from the Enclave Oil Rig, they even sent all clear signals to Vaults 8 and 13 so that they would open up. The Enclave were actually the ones to change tactics as initially the vault experiments were designed to test extreme social conditions in space flight so that the Enclave could extradite from Earth, however that plan changed in favor of 'cleansing' the planet.
“The end of the world occurred pretty much as we had predicted. Too many humans, not enough space or resources to go around. The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons, as always, purely human ones.” — Ron Perlman,The nuclear holocaust was a direct result of the, a decade-long conflict that left both the and exhausted. By, a combination of attrition, loss of supply routes, and offensives conducted by the United States across the front, left Chinese units in stranded and cut off from reinforcements. The liberation of spearheaded by winterized units under the command of marked the end of the, after a decade of war., commander of the Alaskan theater, was killed in action. The campaign in mainland China, which began with the amphibious landings at in, was reinvigorated by gaining ground in Alaska and the deployment of T-51 units. However, as pushed deeper into the mainland, Chinese resistance increased.

By October, the situation transitioned from a rout into a stalemate. Despite a decade of war, there was no end in sight. Billions of and thousands of casualties were spent in vain, despite taxes and various wartime revenues ensuring the was been able to fund a standing army the likes of which the United States had never seen before. In a desperate attempt to bolster the offensive and break the stalemate, bases across the United States were sealed and troops redeployed to provide more men for the meat grinder. The situation was made worse by the fact that the oligarchs ruling the United States retreated to remote locations around the globe, expecting a last-ditch nuclear strike from China at any moment. The was claimed by and key members of the junta, becoming the foundation of the future. The United States was leaderless, continuing on simply due through inertia.

EventsPressed against the wall with nothing to lose, the Chinese finally launched a nuclear first strike on, in a last-ditch effort to knock America out of the game. The first Chinese subs were identified by the at 00:03 EST off the coast of, moving into position. At 03:37 EST, a squadron of high-altitude bombers was sighted off the.Six hours later, at 09:13 EST, the detected the first four missile launches and the United States went to DEFCON 2.
Four minutes later, confirmation sealed the fate of the world. At 09:26 EST, the ordered a retaliatory strike according to scenario MX-CN91. As American weapons were launched, the first Chinese nukes hit in and at 09:42 EST. By 09:47 EST, most American facilities went offline. The nuclear exchange continued for two hours, until silence fell across the land. Both and the were destroyed.
The standard nuclear warhead used in the Great War was that of strategic nuclear warhead ranging from 200-750 kilotons in explosive yield with the occasional megaton yield warhead (such as the ) being the outliers. This would actually be far worse for the Earth as the lower yield warheads would deposit more soil and debris into the lower atmosphere resulting in a much more concentrated fallout that would envelop the environment. The entire world had been blanketed with multiple nuclear strikes, most cities being hit multiple times, and the world and its entire ecosystem being irrevocably changed for centuries to come.Aftermath Environment.
Main articles:,The results of the nuclear war were devastating, as they combined with biological and chemical weapons that saw widespread use during the. The most significant result was a global climate shift, manifesting as extensive desertification, particularly in.
What was once the richest and important agricultural region saw many aquifers dry up and vast stretches of arable land turning to deserts. The Central Valley, the largest and most fertile valley in California, became a barren in the wake of the climate change. The changes in climate led to widespread alterations of the ecosystem. The new climate meant that many plants could no longer grow or be cultivated, ranging from common to specialized crops, such as. Due to necessity, crop variants mutated by radiation were adopted by survivors, including mutated.
These cultivars thrived in the warm weather of the Southwest, with similar mutations proliferating across the colder climates of the northern reaches of the continent.Animals were also adversely affected. The combination of and various local mutagens, particularly the in, led to widespread mutation. By 2080, new species were created almost overnight, replacing animals that died out or were out-competed.
The most notable mutated species to emerge from this melting pot of genotypes is the venerable, a mutated Indian cattle variant. Once the mutation stabilized, the brahmin turned out to be well suited for the harsh conditions of the wasteland, requiring little and relatively small grazing areas, while providing plenty in return, including milk, meat, leather, bone, transportation et cetera. As such, it rapidly became the most widespread livestock animal in New California and the backbone of many a wasteland economy. Main articles:,The impact on humanity and civilization was severe and traumatic.
Although emergency response units and elements of the were mobilized in the evening of October 22, their ability to provide aid to victims and refugees was hampered by the lack of centralized command and control resulting from disabling most communications equipment. Despite efforts by the military to bolster relief efforts, the shock of the nuclear attack resulted in their morale crumbling and many deserting their posts. By the time began to set in among victims of the attack, the situation was hopeless as they were not receiving any supplies to aid the victims. And were the only care available to most patients. Those who lived outside of major cities or managed to escape them in the narrow window given by the sirens faced a much better chance of survival. (However, the notable exception of was spared a direct nuclear strike thanks to, who disabled or destroyed 68 out of 77 warheads heading for the city).
Although suffering from the sudden loss of access to, and medical care, these survivors would go on to found new communities across the newly born wasteland, becoming the founding fathers of a new civilization struggling to rise from the ashes. These include, the founder of, of the, the founders of and, and so on and so forth. Some refused to go into their assigned Vaults, believing it was just another drill and not realizing the truth until it was too late. The Fallout series was first introduced in September 1997 but has since branched out into a wide world filled with lore. We learned about life before the Great War in Fallout 4, the rebuilding right after in Fallout 76, and how both the West and East Coast managed to rebuild over the past two hundred years. Some parts of the series are lacking detail. Fans had often complained about Bethesda inserting new lore into the series, such as when the Brotherhood of Steel first appeared on the East Coast, but the developer/publisher is only filling in the gaps. Players have also found themselves coming up with fan theories when they come across Easter eggs in the game. Though the developer may have intended a reference to be fun and lighthearted, fans misinterpreted their efforts. In our list, we have compiled some of the fakest series fan theories being spread online. While some are too ridiculous to be taken seriously, some are so surprising that fans couldn’t believe they were true. Before you try to discover what’s real or fake, be advised that this list contains major spoilers for the entire series.
Via: kotaku.comIn the early Fallout games, children weren't innocent from the darkness of the post-apocalyptic world. Fallout 2 originally allowed the Chosen One to consider them enemies, but at the risk of being known for their sinister deed.Players wondered if Bethesda would allow children to become enemies again in the future installments. This turned out to be false. Children are considered essential NPCs. The kids in Little Lamplight might appear annoying, but in the end, they always wind up helping you complete Project Purity. Via: gamestar.deSeven years passed between the release of Fallout 3 and 4. Gamers eager for a new sequel began to share rumors every time Bethesda or Obsidian, who developed Fallout: New Vegas, made an announcement.
In 2016, news quickly spread that the European Intellectual Property Office copyrighted Fallout New Orleans. The trademark was never officially approved and eventually removed. Fans most likely twisted regarding Obsidian visiting New Orleans for research.
That research turned into Pillars of Eternity 2. Via: fallout.wikia.comThe Super Mutant process removes all humanity from its victim. One of those victims was Fawkes, who lived in Vault 87. Fawkes' voice actor made a joke during an interview that Fawkes was previously female. There was proof that the mutant was named Shelton Delacroix and wore a male-style Vault Dweller uniform.Lead Designer Emil Pagliarulo made it clear on the Bethesda forums: 'No, Fawkes was absolutely a male. This was a mistake. Wes gave an interview, and he was mistaken.
Trust me, Fawkes is and was male.' Via: fallout.wikia.comThe maps of Fallout are often outlined with large bodies of water. Most gamers stay away from a dip in the ocean. The water is highly irradiated, and if you jump in wearing Power Armor, you might never get that suit back. Fans have speculated that something is lurking underwater.According to cut content, the Sole Survivor worked with Captain Zao of the Yangtze to uncover Vault 120, which was completely submerged underwater. Unfortunately, no other information about the vault was revealed. Via: gamerant.comBethesda now develops two award-winning series: Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.
The developer knows they have fans who play both games. To add some fun to the series, they placed a reference to Skyrim in Fallout 4. The Elder Scrolls' Nirnroot can be found growing on the Brotherhood of Steel's Prydwen.Bethesda's Marketing Director 'No, I don't think there's any universe in which those universes are in the same universe. That's not a thing.' It's just a fun Easter egg and nothing more. Via: funnyjunk.comIn the first Fallout game, the Vault Dweller is tasked with helping Ghouls in Necropolis repair their water source.
If the Vault Dweller agrees, the Ghouls will survive. Otherwise, the ending card states that all of the creatures perish from dehydration.Fallout 4 features the infamous 'kid in a fridge' Billy who has survived for 200 years. All Ghouls have different physiology. Since Billy is young, he can survive for longer without fulfilling his basic needs. That's why Raiders prefer to capture younger Ghouls.
Via: fallout.wikia.comWe've seen aliens in every numbered Fallout game. In Fallout 3 and 4, they're hostile.
They're not interested in working together with humans. This isn't due to the changes over the past 200 centuries. Aliens have had a long history of exploring the Earth.According to the Cabot family, some ancient aliens once helped humans develop new civilizations. The Cabot family has been alive since the mid-1800s thanks to an alien artifact.
A possibly one of the oldest characters in the series, we can believe that aliens do exist in Fallout's world. Via: fallout.wikia.comGhouls were once humans. After being hit with a high amount of radiation, their bodies transformed into zombie-like creatures.
Many believe that Ghouls were created through the Great War.It's possible for any human at any time to morph into a Ghoul. One example is your recruitable companion, John Hancock. He was once a normal human. His passion for experimenting with dangerous products led him to mutate into a Ghoul. If it can happen to Hancock, it's possible that any other creature can transform into a Ghoul. Via: nexusmods.comThe fake Reddit post by Sandra Reed did have some truths behind it.
How Did Vault Tec Know About The Bombs
Fallout 4 took place in Boston. The male protagonist would say the iconic line 'War.
War never changes.' Instead of Ron Perlman. Reed's post shocked many gamers when it stated that the male protagonist was the only option. The Fallout series has always had a male or female choice with customization options. This theory was quickly proved wrong.
Bethesda showed custom character options and pre-established protagonists named Nate or Nora. Via: geeksofdoom.comDevelopers love to insert various Easter eggs into games to amuse fans. There is too much of a good thing.
Bethesda used the first Fallout game as a base for their future Fallout games.During an interview with the developer/publisher, ' Fallout 2 is also great, but it was a little too nod-nod-wink-wink in its jokes. Too many pop culture references, too much breaking of the fourth wall' and 'we prefer Fallout's still-funny, but toned-down humor in comparison.' That doesn't mean that Bethesda removed all Easter eggs. Fallout 4 contains references to Jaws and Blade Runner. Via: aminoapps.comGamers follow the Sole Survivor from the beginning of the game until the end. They have retained all of their memories and even bring up pop-culture references from their youth. DiMA tries to make the Sole Survivor question their humanity, which led many fans to believe you are playing as a Synth.
It's highly unlikely the Sole Survivor is a Synth since they have been in cryogenic sleep for the past 200 years. If their cryogenic pod was opened to replace their body, it would have awakened them again. Via: vg247.comReddit is a forum where may like-minded gamers go to read the latest news about their favorite games. In 2013, decided to create an elaborate hoax to 'bring the community together.' Via: jumpersartdesign.comMost gamers know of Fallout 1 and 2, which were developed by Black Studio Isle and published by Interplay. Before Bethesda obtained the series, they released other side games. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel take place in the same universe but have been disregarded as 'non-canon.'
Bethesda tried to make the story fit their new narrative in Fallout 3. Executive Producer, 'For our purposes, neither Fallout Tactics nor Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel happened.'
